Admission regulations Metis secondary school

The regulations are issued pursuant to the Private Schools Act, Section 3-1, Regulations to the Private Schools Act, Chapter 11, Circular Udlr-5-2010 and have been adopted by the Metis Upper Secondary School School Board. The regulations have been revised and updated in accordance with current legislation on 29.3.2023.

§ 1 Admission regulations

Admission of students to Metis High School shall take place in accordance with the provisions of the Private Schools Act and regulations in force at any time and the admission regulations established by the board.

§ 2 Student achievements

Metis Upper Secondary School has an intake area throughout the country. Young people with the right to upper secondary education according to the Private Schools Act § 3-1, first and second paragraphs, can apply for a place at the school. In the event of capacity problems, student intake shall be prioritized according to the following priority criteria:

1. Internal students at Metis Upper Secondary School who meet the conditions for admission to Vg2/Vg3 in the regulations to the Private Schools Act, sections 11-11 and 11-12. However, this does not apply to students who neglect their duties according to the school's rules of order by extensive undocumented absence, which has resulted in the loss of state subsidies according to the financial regulations to the Private Schools Act, sections 4-2.

2. External applicants. Applicants with higher scores are admitted before applicants with lower scores. Here, the school follows the rules in the Regulations to the Education Act §§ 6-20 and 6-21. The latest available grades apply 1). In order to be included in the first intake, the school must have received valid grades 2) within the deadline set by the school. For applicants to Vg2 and Vg3, the conditions in the Regulations to the Private Schools Act §§ 11-11 and 11-12 apply.

Applicants to Metis high school elite sports are prioritized according to the following guidelines:

For applicants to Vg1, grades from lower secondary school will be weighted 50% and athletic qualifications 50%. Applicants to Metis upper secondary top sports are assessed based on the individual's sport and do not compete for the same places. Each sport has its own quotas that are determined before admission each year. The applicants' athletic qualifications are described in an attachment and sent by e-mail to the school. The athletic qualifications are described based on quality requirements prepared by Olympiatoppen. The school reserves the right to conduct an entrance exam where the applicant's athletic qualifications (motivation, physical and social characteristics, etc.) are tested.

Metis secondary schools may nevertheless make the following exceptions to priority criterion no. 2:

• Previous students who have attended Vg2 at school abroad may be given priority over external applicants for Vg3.

• Students who have siblings who attend or have attended the school may be given priority over external applicants.

• Children of school employees and school board members may be given priority over external applicants.

The school's admissions committee recommends students for admission. The school's general manager is responsible for admissions. The principal and assistant principal sit on the admissions committee.

1) Students who apply by the deadline of March 1 or before they have received their diploma, apply with their first-term grades. Applicants who submit their application later, or who are on the waiting list, can apply with their diploma.

2) Valid grades are a copy of the transcript from the 1st term, or a copy of the diploma/certificate of competence.

In order to prepare for the best possible start to school, written permission may be obtained from parents or guardians to obtain information about the student from the primary school and educational psychological services after the student has accepted the offer of a place at the school. It is voluntary for parents or guardians to give the school such permission to obtain information about the student.

Notification of admission to upper secondary education is sent to the student's home county, cf. the Private Schools Act, Section 3-1, fifth paragraph.

A student who has been granted a place at Metis High School has the right to complete the school year or the relevant course unless the student can be expelled, cf. Private Schools Act Section 3-10.

§ 3 Application deadlines and announcement of student intake

Each year in January, the application deadline and study offers shall be announced in an appropriate manner to ensure that information about admissions for the next school year reaches the public.

The application deadline for the first intake is March 1. If the aforementioned date is a holiday, the following weekday applies. Applicants who are not accepted into the first intake and applications received after March 1 will be placed on a waiting list. After the first intake, the applicant with the highest grade on the waiting list at any given time for the next intake will be offered a place first.

The school's management may decide to reduce the intake to 80% of the number of students at the first intake, for better distribution of the workload of the school's administration or at the request of the host county's education office.

§ 4 Review of applications

After the application deadline, the school principal or someone he authorizes will review the applications received.

The principal announces final admissions. Notification of admissions after the first intake shall take place no later than 12 weeks after the application deadline, cf. Admissions Regulations § 3. Applicants who are not notified of admission may be offered a place on a waiting list. All applicants shall be notified as soon as this is practically possible. The principal may authorize others to announce admissions.

§ 5 Right to appeal

There is a right of appeal against decisions on admission, cf. the Private Schools Act, Section 3-1, sixth paragraph, cf. the Public Administration Act, Chapter VI. The Ministry is the appeals body at the State Administrator of Vestland.

§ 6 Amendment to admission regulations

These Admissions Regulations may be amended at any time by the school board within the framework of applicable rules in the Private Schools Act with regulations and the school's statutes.
