For those of you who want
Wants freedom of choice within languages, science and social studies
Will keep all opportunities open for higher education
Want general or special study qualifications
Dreaming of becoming a veterinarian, doctor, psychologist or engineer
Are you a little unsure about what you want to become and want to keep all options open? Then specialization may be the right choice for you!
An exciting school day
At Metis High School you will experience a challenging and exciting school day. Maybe you make a music video in Norwegian or make a Seigmann explode in chemistry class? Our teachers are committed to providing you with varied teaching both in and outside the classroom. Metis also has one of the city's best science offerings.
Broad cooperation
The school's central location in the city center gives us many opportunities. We collaborate with the University of Bergen, Haukeland University Hospital, VilVite, the Institute of Marine Research and many other companies and institutions to make teaching exciting and relevant.
Time to immerse yourself
As a student at Metis, you will experience a different school day. You will generally only have one subject per day, so-called block days. This gives you peace and time to immerse yourself in the subject. Block days also make it possible to move parts of the teaching out of the classroom. Our students are very happy with this arrangement and few other upper secondary schools offer this.
Ready for higher education
A diploma from Metis High School gives you general study qualifications, and with the right combination of subjects, special study qualifications. This gives you the opportunity to
to apply for education at all universities and university colleges in Norway.
Interview with Hanne
Interview with Henrik
Interview with Håvard
Håvard chose a study specialization to keep all options open.
Why did you choose Study Specialization?
In middle school, we learned that choosing a specialization keeps the most options open, and you get many more subject choices. I haven't quite decided what I want to be, so that's why I chose a specialization. That's how I keep my options open.
How was the first day of school?
The first day of school was good. We had get-to-know-you games, conversations and we learned everyone's names in the class. We went on a trip with the class already in the first week, and it was really good. It creates a good environment.
What's the best thing about Metis?
That's a good question, it could be several things.
I really enjoy Metis and am doing well. The school and the class have a nice environment and I have made many new friends here. We have block days, with one subject a day, so we can immerse ourselves in all subjects and themes. We have more time and can do more different things in the subjects. That is positive!
What is your favorite subject?
Gym. We try a lot of different things, and then we are physically active. It is important to me. I do several activities in my free time – skating, boxing, paragliding and weightlifting. In the past, I have also done handball and football. I am not as active there now, but I continue to be a handball coach. I am a coach in Bergen Handball and coach those who are two years younger than me.
What do you want to do when you finish your studies?
I first want to join the military when I finish here at Metis. I also have a desire to study something abroad eventually, but I haven't decided what it should be. I can actually imagine becoming a firefighter in the long term – that sounds exciting.
Do you have any good tips for new students?
Tips for new students? Perhaps the most important thing is to pay close attention in class – and listen to what is being said. That way you won't have to make up for a lot yourself afterwards. It's also a good idea to work hard in class.

Metis participates in exciting Erasmus+ project
Metis High School is leading a new Erasmus+ project where we collaborate with schools and teachers in several countries. The school has been granted two new Erasmus+ projects, starting in the fall of 2020.
The project description is ¨Environmental Learning Through Mobile Devices (ELMO)¨ and we will collaborate with schools in Greece, Italy and Spain. In addition, ItsLearning will join as an ¨associated partner¨. This project is based on teacher collaboration where you work on various environmental & climate tasks together with the students.
The second school collaboration project “Promoting Citizenship and building Inclusive Societies (POLIS)” is led by Italy and Metis joins as a partner together with schools from Greece, Malta, Turkey and Lithuania. This project involves student exchange (4 students together with two teachers). Both projects last for two years, but due to corona and travel restrictions until further notice, the projects may be extended over three years. It is estimated that each partner school will travel to visit each of the other partner schools (4-5 days), each time with 4 new students and two new teachers.
