As a student at Metis High School, you have the opportunity to take advantage of free lessons with private teachers in Vg1, Vg2 and Vg3.
5 sessions of 90 minutes in mathematics per semester.
5 sessions of 90 minutes in foreign language per semester.
Math and foreign languages are challenging subjects, where extra learning in a 1-on-1 situation with a private tutor can make a big difference.
If cancelled less than 24 hours before the scheduled class/failure to attend, the student will forfeit the class.

Meet Mads - private tutor at Metis
- Helping students achieve their goals and create “aha” experiences is very special and fun.
He sees that many people fall off the wagon during traditional teaching and then struggle to find good building blocks to create understanding in subjects. Mads believes that many people would benefit from learning new ways of understanding with the help of tips and tricks.
When you book a lesson with a private teacher at Metis, we ask you to state what you need help with. This will ensure good communication, an efficient start to the lessons, and a safe experience.
- Before class, I often look at what issues the students are struggling with. I always prepare myself so that I am sure that I have full control over the topic. Then I try to put myself in the student's situation. I learned most of it "recently" when I was a high school student myself a few years ago, so that probably gives me an advantage in understanding the students' frustrations and how I can create greater understanding for them.
Turn it around with positivity
- When I sit with the students, I really notice from their body language whether they understand what I'm saying. When they're unsure, their face can quickly look a little blank, and then I often change tactics and try new approaches.
Mads says that negativity rarely lasts, and smiles come quickly.
- Some are a bit negative about themselves at first and are perhaps a bit embarrassed that they don't understand the tasks. Then I try to make them see the fun in learning. Often it helps just to be positive about the tasks to be solved.
Although it can be a tough start for some, the students who come to us are very motivated to learn something and get into a good rhythm with their private teacher. This applies to all levels. A feeling of struggling with assignments is not only for the brightest or those with slightly lower grades. Everyone has a lot in common as students and people. We find that everyone can get positive results from working with a private teacher.
Many succeed
As a student, Mads himself is in a situation where he has to perform. He is familiar with challenges and the good feeling of mastery. As a private teacher, Mads experiences that most people get to feel mastery during the process.
- I see that many people succeed in our classes. I recently had a student in math who really struggled to remember the rules. After our classes, he really felt the mastery in that he understood the formulas. He continued to work in traditional school classes, on his own and with a private tutor. It was an incredible feeling to see how he made progress and you could see that the student's self-confidence just grew and grew.
Mads believes that the above recipe is the key to success.
There is no doubt that when you have learned some new learning tricks and that you continue to work steadily on the assignments, you will eventually take steps. Sometimes you need a little help to understand, and that is perfectly okay. Private tutoring should be a supplement to the students, it should be a “safe place” where in the long run you should not be limited by your challenges in the subjects. Our job is to ensure that the students gain greater understanding, and we succeed in that together.
