First student mobility: Bergen 7-10 March 2023
The goal was to let the students experience and find joy in Norwegian nature, to motivate and reflect on why it is important to take care of nature. We used Norwegian eco-literature that describes nature and changes in nature, knowledge about climate change and physical education as tools for this reflection. In addition, skiing was used as a concrete example of how nature is used in Norwegian culture.
Student activities at Metis: Apart from a short meeting at Meet, it was the first time that the Danish and Norwegian students met. The first day started at Metis, where the students were divided into groups across classes, and worked on academic assignments in Norwegian, Danish and science. They were given eco-literature and science articles and they started working on a creative video where they discuss the future of western nature based on the texts they had worked on. They ended the day with a small city rebus in groups and a welcome dinner at Bien Centro. An important principle in this project is that the students will live with a host family, the students' guardians, so the Danish students went home to their Norwegian hosts for the night.
Two days of skiing at Voss: The next day everyone took the train to Voss and then the gondola up the mountain, where the students from 1mk and together with the Danish students spent the day cross-country skiing and the next day Alpine skiing. For many it was their first time skiing, but it went incredibly well without any injuries. We also had a base with Kvikklunsj and cocoa at the storm kitchen that the students could go up to when they needed a break. Dinner, socializing and overnight at the Voss hostel.
Closing at Metis: On the last day of the stay, all the students met at the school, where they were allowed to complete the tasks they started on the first day: a video with images from Norwegian nature with narration about climate change and descriptions related to Norwegian literature. Before the sloppy students and their teachers were to go home by bus, it was time to say "goodbye" at the Festplassen and take a group photo in front of Ulriken.
Feedback from Metis students:
The students faced some challenges in understanding the Danish students, but it became easier over time. They appreciated that they worked in stable groups during their stay, which gave them time to get to know “their gang.” Several also expressed both a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment of skiing, and that it motivated them to go skiing/skiing more.
