Then you will find more questions and answers here.

Before you apply

  • Anyone who has youth rights can apply. Read more about this in the admission regulations.

  • Metis is not included in Vigo admissions as the public school is. You therefore apply via our website. Your application is not complete until we have received grades from you. Copies of transcripts are sent to the school's admissions office as an attachment to an email or by post to. The address is: inntak.bergen@metis.no

    The Metis Admissions Office

    PO Box 59 Nygårdstangen

    5838 Bergen

    e-mail: antänt.bergen@metis.no

The application deadline is March 1.

Important information about the application process

Applicants to Vg1 must submit a copy of the grades from the first half-year assessment/Christmas grades from grade 10. Remember to include grades for final subjects from grade 8 and 9 (e.g. music, food and health, arts and crafts).

Applicants for Vg1 top sports must also complete and submit a separate attachment to the application.

External applicants to Vg2 must submit grades from the first semester assessment from Vg1 (internal students do not need to submit grades).

External applicants to Vg3 must submit a certificate of competence for Vg1 and the first half-year assessment from Vg2 (internal students do not need to submit grades).

Metis uses the same admissions office as Bergen Private Gymnasium. If you have applied to both schools, you only need to submit grades to one of the schools.

  • Some schools, such as the Steiner School, have half-year and full-year assessments instead of numerical grades. It is therefore important that each applicant contacts their school and has these converted before submitting them to the admissions office.

  • We ask that you submit a transcript/diploma with a signature and stamp from your school. Cut and paste grades from Vigo/It's Learning or similar will not be accepted.

  • You can start submitting your application from January 1st.

  • The application deadline is March 1, but it is also possible to apply after this. We will supplement the intake as long as we have available school places.

  • Completed Norwegian primary school or equivalent. It is difficult to say what the average grade for admission to the school will be, as this varies from year to year and is different for the different education programs. Please note that there are separate rules for admission to Metis top sports. Read more about this in the admission regulations. For all our education programs, it is a requirement that you have youth rights.

  • Young people who have completed primary and secondary school or equivalent education have a statutory right to three years of upper secondary education (youth entitlement). In some subjects, the training period is longer than three years. In that case, you are entitled to the training period stipulated for the subject. Metis can only offer school places to students with youth entitlement. If you are in doubt whether you have this, check the points below:

You have the right to three years of regular upper secondary education.

If you make a change of study program (change of education program), you are entitled to one extra year.

You can take two “waiting years” during your training without losing your right.

You must exercise your right to upper secondary education within a continuous period of five years. You must exercise your right by the end of the year in which you turn 24.

If you do not have a youth right according to the points above, we unfortunately cannot offer you a school place. If you have used up your youth right, it is possible to apply to your county council for an extension.

  • All applicants can only submit one application.

  • It is important for you to choose the right educational program. All of our educational programs provide university entrance qualifications, you can read more about our program areas here. If you have other questions about Metis, you can send an email to intakt.bergen@metis.no. If you are unsure which educational program you should choose, it may be a good idea to talk to an advisor at your school.

  • Yes. The school can offer a place to everyone, regardless of where in the country you live. When you attend the school, you must live in a place where you can follow the lessons at the school.

  • We use the information you provide in the contact field to get in touch with you. Therefore, please make sure to write your name and address correctly, and contact us if any of your contact information changes (name, address, phone number, email address).

  • Once you have completed your application, you will be sent an email confirmation immediately. If you have not received an email, please check if the email may have gone into your spam filter. If you have not received a confirmation after a few days, please contact us at intakt.bergen@metis.no

After you have applied

  • You will shortly receive confirmation that we have received your application by email. All applicants must submit grades:

    • Applicants to Vg1 must submit a copy of the grades from the first half-year assessment/Christmas grades from grade 10. Remember to include grades for final subjects from grade 8 and 9 (e.g. music, food and health, arts and crafts).

    • External applicants to Vg2 must submit grades from the first semester assessment from Vg1 (internal students do not need to submit grades).

    • External applicants to Vg3 must submit a certificate of competence for Vg1 and the first half-year assessment from Vg2 (internal students do not need to submit grades).

The first offers of school places will expire in April/May. Those who are offered a school place will be sent an SMS with a link to digitally sign the school contract. Metis Upper Secondary School uses Posten's signing solution where you log in via the ID-porten with any login method (MinID, BankID etc.). If you are under 18 years of age, your guardians must go in and sign the contract. NB! Please note that there is a short response deadline for signing. When the contract is signed, you will receive an invoice for school fees for August/September of the next school year. The invoice for payment of school fees will be sent by email to the guardian (to the student when the student is over 18 years of age).

  • The first intake will take place in April/May. The intake will continue until we have filled all the student places. In order to be included in the intake, you must have submitted a copy of your grades and meet any other admission requirements (see above). If we have not received your grades, we will send a reminder when the time for admission approaches. If you do not hear from us, you have been placed on a waiting list. During the summer, everyone on the waiting list will also receive a letter about this.

  • Metis is a private high school that is not part of VIGO. This means that we do our own school intake. This is time-consuming work. To ensure that we are able to fill all the school places and prepare for the start of school, we therefore have to start early.

  • Our admission regulations state that the last available grade applies. If you have not been offered a place at our school, or are on a waiting list, you can submit your 10th grade diploma if you are applying for Vg1, or your 2nd term grades if you are applying for Vg2 or Vg3. Other documentation in connection with admission to Metis top sports can also be submitted.

  • Send an email to intakt.bergen@metis.no or call the admissions office on 55 32 68 00, and we will change it in the admissions system. We ask that all applicants think carefully about which educational program they want to attend before applying. Please contact your school advisor if you are unsure about which program to choose.

  • You will have five days to respond after you have received the SMS with a link to digital signing. During this period, you must have signed the school contract via ID-porten (the link you have received in the SMS) so that we can reserve the school place for you. If you do not sign within the deadline, the school place will be offered to the next person on the waiting list.

  • Yes, it is binding when your guardians or you, if you are over 18 years old, have signed the contract via ID-porten. If you later wish to cancel your school place, this must be done in writing to Metis upper secondary school. It is sufficient to send an e-mail to intakt.bergen@metis.no . If cancellation is made before the start of school, the invoice received must be paid. If the school place is cancelled during the school year, school fees are paid for the month of cancellation and for the following month.

  • Once you have received the SMS with a link to sign the contract, your guardian/you have 5 days to respond. If your guardian/you do not sign within the deadline, the school place will be offered to the next person on the waiting list.

  • Once you have received the SMS with a link to sign the contract, your guardians/you have 5 days to respond. If your guardians/you do not sign within the deadline, you will automatically be removed from our applicant lists and the school place will be offered to the next person on the waiting list. If you change your mind and want to be re-listed at a later date, you must contact the admissions office to find out whether this is possible. We cannot guarantee that you will receive a new offer of a school place when you return to the waiting list.

  • Offers of a school place are sent via SMS with a link to sign the school contract with a response deadline of 5 days. If you know that you will be away during the relevant period, you must make sure to check your phone. If you are under 18 years of age and your guardians have not received a signing link via SMS, you must send this to your guardians so that they can sign the contract.

  • If you have decided that you do not want to be on our applicant list, you can send us an email to intakt.bergen@metis.no .

  • During a hectic intake period, we will not have the capacity to answer all your inquiries by phone. Please send an email to intakt.bergen@metis.no .

How much does a school year cost?

  • The tuition fees for the 2025-2026 school year consist of two parts.

The main part is NOK 22,000,- and is invoiced at NOK 2,200,- per month for ten months. The second part consists of mandatory academic activities such as visits to the theatre, cinema, excursions and any other study trips.

For students in top sports, there is a sports cost of NOK 8,000, which is intended to cover an expanded offer in addition to the school offer (training, rental facilities, shared equipment, higher coach density).

Included in the school fees is a MacBook (with Office and Adobe package), school bag and school sweater.

(In addition, you can apply for equipment grants from the Loan Fund)

*Costs for voluntary training camps abroad are additional.

(In addition, you can apply for equipment grants from the Loan Fund)

  • As a student, you receive an equipment grant from the Loan Fund. You can also apply for other grants and loans.

  • At the start of school, all new students in VG1 are given their own Mac with the latest software. You can use the Mac freely as long as you are a student with us. If you complete all three years at Metis Upper Secondary School, you can keep the computer free of charge. If you leave before – or do not complete all three years with us – you can return it to the school or buy it out at a favorable price, according to the terms of the school contract. In addition, you can of course borrow textbooks from the school. You also get a school bag. If you participate in top-level sports, you get training clothes and a training bag.

  • Private schools receive 85% of what public high schools receive in government subsidies. The authorities have decided that the private schools must collect the remaining 15% through tuition fees.

  • The invoice for two months (August and September) will be sent to your email if you are over 18 years old or to the email address you have provided to your guardian if you are under 18 years old.

NB! Remember to check your junk folder, as the email may have ended up there. You will then receive an invoice by email monthly throughout the school year unless you choose direct debit in your online bank. There is an administration fee of NOK 50 per invoice. This is waived if you choose direct debit. Please contact us if you would like to pay for two months, per half year, or for the entire year.

Other questions about admission and starting school

  • Please follow our website when the updated school route is posted here. Those who have been granted a school place at Metis will receive information about the school place approximately one week before the start of school via SMS.

  • If you know that you will not be able to attend the start of school and wish to keep your place, you must contact the school as soon as possible by email or phone to get approval for a later start date. If we do not hear from you, we reserve the right to give your place to someone else.

  • If additional places are needed, either because applicants withdraw or because they do not show up for the first day of school, the school will follow the waiting lists. There is therefore no point in showing up in person on the first day of school to secure a place.

  • Preparatory course in mathematics is an offer Metis gives to all new students at our school, so you must have been offered a place at school. After you have been offered a place at school, you must register for the course yourself to get a place. Information about the course and the registration deadline will be published at the beginning of the summer on the school's website.

  • If you have changed your address, name or telephone number, please send notification of this by email to intakt.bergen@metis.no .

  • Every February we arrange open days and information meetings. If you would like to visit the school, please send an email to intakt.bergen@metis.no and we will get back to you with the current times.

  • As a student at Metis Videregående, you have the same rights to loans and scholarships as at other upper secondary schools. Remember that as a student at Metis Videregående, you must use Min ID and not apply through VIGO.

You can apply for Lånekassen as soon as you (or your guardian if you are under 18 years old) have signed the contract and paid the invoice for August and September. See lanekassen.no for more information. If you are already registered with Lånekassen, you can find information by logging in to “Your pages”. When your application has been processed, you will receive a notification from Lånekassen. You (or your guardian if you are under 18 years old) must sign with BankID on Lånekassen's application pages. The money will be paid into your account after school starts.

If you have problems completing the loan fund application, please contact the Loan Fund directly by phone: + 47 22 70 03 00, Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

If you have been rejected for an away-living scholarship, documentation must be sent to the school, and you must also apply for an away-living scholarship again.

  • Contact us by email at intakt.bergen@metis.no or call us on tel. 09 321, so we can get it sorted out as soon as possible!

  • If you are starting in Vg1, your guardians have received an SMS with a link to an ordering page. Our supplier for Macbooks is Elkjøp and Metis upper secondary school is prioritized in the Nordic region. This means that as soon as the machines are delivered to Elkjøp, they will be sent out to our students. The Macs will be delivered at the beginning of August and then sent to the address you have provided. If you have ordered accessories, these can be delivered earlier in a separate shipment.
